Why We Teach Spanish Through Reading

Together is better.

Reading is one of the most powerful tools in language learning — especially for children.

At La Casita, we use stories because stories give language meaning.

When children read (or are read to) in Spanish, they:

  • Hear natural sentence structure

  • Learn vocabulary in context

  • Connect words to emotion and imagination

  • Develop listening comprehension before speaking confidently

Reading allows children to absorb language without pressure. They don’t have to respond immediately. They can listen, observe, and internalize.

Books also expose children to culture — traditions, family dynamics, humor, and values — all through story. A single book can introduce more authentic language than a worksheet ever could.

We believe reading builds a strong foundation.
Speaking grows naturally from understanding.

By teaching Spanish through stories, children don’t just memorize words — they understand them.
